Amorgos
An enchanting, somewhat isolated island with rugged, beautiful landscapes, charming villages and lovely people.
Many traditions are still intact on Amorgos, an island where roads and television are still a relatively recent addition; the village of Langada didn’t have street lights when I first went to the island. Now, the streets are lit and you have to walk a few seconds out of the village to see stunning Milky Way views.
Agriculture is very much still active on the island, and most of the work is done by donkeys, as the terrain is largely too steep for modern machinery. Donkeys are ubiquitous on Amorgos and much loved.
Donkey at dawn, just outside Langada.
